Quickstart
Install the app, sign in, run your first task — in about two minutes.
1. Install
Download the installer for your platform from /download. There is a build for each platform below, and picking the wrong one is the most common way to get a broken install:
| Platform | File | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Windows x64 | Nib-Setup-<version>-x64.exe | Most PCs |
| Windows on Arm | Nib-Setup-<version>-arm64.exe | Snapdragon / ARM VMs. The installer refuses to run on x64. |
| Linux x64 | Nib-<version>-linux-x86_64.AppImage | Also published as a .deb |
| macOS (Apple Silicon) | Nib-<version>-arm64.dmg | M1 / M2 / M3 Macs |
| macOS (Intel) | Nib-<version>-x64.dmg | Intel Macs |
2. Sign in
Open Nib and choose Sign in with Nib. A browser window opens at nib.am/device with a short code already applied. Approve it, and the app stores the credential in your operating system keychain.
3. Check your plan
The composer status bar shows your plan, the credits you have left, and today / week / month usage. The full picture is in the console under Usage: allowance, spend per request, weekly and daily caps, and the reset date.
4. Pick a model
Every paid plan reaches every model family. Use the model picker in the composer, or leave it on Auto and let Nib choose per turn — routine work goes to an efficient model and escalates when a task needs it. The Models page lists the exact model ids.
5. Run a task
Open a folder as a project and describe what you want. Nib reads the repository, proposes an approach, edits files, runs your tests, and repeats until the task passes or it needs a decision from you. Press Esc to stop at any point.
6. Use it elsewhere
Create a key under API keys, then point any OpenAI-compatible tool at the gateway. The same key and the same credits apply.
export NIB_API_KEY="sk-nib-..."
export OPENAI_BASE_URL="https://api.nib.am/v1"
See External tools for editor and SDK examples.
Troubleshooting
The installer finishes but there is no Nib.exe
This was a packaging defect in 0.22.1 and 0.22.2 on Windows on Arm: the installer compressed its payload with a filter its own unpacker could not decode, so every executable was skipped while the install reported success. Fixed in 0.22.3. Use the current installer. If it still happens, the installer now stops with an explicit message rather than leaving a shortcut pointing at nothing — send us that message.
Can't reach the local service / host-core exited
The desktop started but its local service did not. Click Open logs in the banner and send us the log. On Windows on Arm this was caused by a missing runtime DLL in 0.22.2 and is fixed in 0.22.3.
Requests fail with 402
Your credits are exhausted for the current window. Top up or upgrade at /pricing. The console shows the reset date.
A remote host asks to be upgraded
Reconnect to it. The desktop downloads the matching nib-host bundle, checks its published
SHA-256, and upgrades the host in place. You should not have to remove and re-add the host.
